“How Does Any Mother Sleep?” Toyin Abraham Breaks Silence Over 25 Abducted Schoolgirls

In the aftermath of the tragic abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, Nollywood star Toyin Abraham has taken to social media to express her deep sorrow while sending a powerful message to Nigerian mothers.

The actress, who is known for speaking out on social issues, shared emotional reflections on her Instagram page as she responded to the heartbreaking video of the violent attack in Kwara that has shaken the nation.

Toyin Abraham questioned how any parent, especially mothers, can cope with such horrifying realities. She wrote about the emotional devastation that comes with seeing innocent girls stolen from their families — girls who should be “safe, laughing, learning, dreaming.” In her words:

“How do we move past the heaviness in our hearts after watching the heartbreaking video of the attack in Kwara? How does any mother close her eyes at night knowing that 25 young girls have been stolen from their families?”

Speaking directly to mothers, the actress emphasized the unique emotional burden they carry. She noted that mothers experience fear on a deeper, more instinctive level, especially when acts of violence occur. According to her:

“As mothers, we carry a kind of fear that sits deep in our bones. When we hear of such violence, it is not just news to us, it is a wound.”

The filmmaker went further to condemn the rising wave of terrorism and religious extremism destabilizing communities across Nigeria. She stressed that these attacks are not just assaults on villages, but on humanity itself.

“Terrorism and religious extremism are tearing at the fabric of our communities, changing the way people live, love, pray, and hope. These fanatics and terrorists are not just attacking villages, they are attacking the very idea of safety, childhood, and peace.”

Toyin Abraham concluded by raising difficult but necessary questions about how society can protect its children in an era where cruelty appears unchecked.

“So how do we confront a world where innocent souls are kidnapped and killed in the name of hatred? How do we protect our children when cruelty seems to move without fear or consequence?”

The actress noted that these are the painful questions that “haunt every mother’s heart.”
