Nollywood star Queen Nwokoye has finally addressed a long-standing question from fans: why she has never collaborated with blockbuster filmmaker Funke Akindele, despite both actresses commanding huge influence in the Nigerian movie industry.
In a recent sit-down with media personality Seun Oloketuyi, Queen Nwokoye revealed that Funke Akindele has consistently reached out to her over the years with offers to join various film projects.
However, contrary to popular assumptions, the reason they haven’t worked together is not due to rivalry or tension, but simply scheduling conflicts.
According to her, Funke has always made room for her, but timing has repeatedly gotten in the way. In her words, “Funke has never done a movie without inviting me, but the timing is always off.” Queen emphasized that she prioritizes her personal life above all else, especially her duties to her family.
The actress also shared a similar situation with fellow Nollywood powerhouse Toyin Abraham, who first reached out to her for a collaboration as far back as 2016. Unfortunately, due to family obligations and conflicting schedules, they only managed to work together this year. She explained,
“My family comes first when it comes to my career. Toyin has been reaching out since 2016, but I just got to work with her this year.”
Queen Nwokoye, who began her Nollywood journey in 2004, also opened up about one of the darkest seasons of her life—losing both parents in 2019. The grief, she said, changed her entire perspective on life.
“I began 2019 with both my mum and dad, and within six months, I became an orphan. I still can’t believe I managed to go through two funerals in such a short time. Today, I have chosen to embrace happiness and leave the past behind. God is in control,” she shared.
With renewed strength, Queen Nwokoye says she is now more intentional about balancing personal happiness with her thriving career.
