Nigerian rapper, lawyer, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has expressed deep frustration over the growing wave of tribal and religious tensions in the country. The artist described the situation as emotionally draining and urged Nigerians to rise above such divisions, which he believes are being deliberately fueled by political leaders for personal gain.

Falz shared his thoughts while reacting to a post made by his colleague, Nasboi, on social media. Nasboi had earlier expressed concern about how Nigerians often allow tribal and religious sentiments to distract them from holding their leaders accountable. In his post, Nasboi condemned corruption and called for unity among citizens to demand better governance.

“We’ve really kept quiet in this country. Reminiscing stories like ‘snake swallowing money.’ These politicians really take us for granted, busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this country first,” Nasboi wrote.

In his response, Falz expressed dismay that despite decades of political experience and repeated cycles of failed leadership, many Nigerians still allow ethnic and religious biases to shape their thinking. He described this persistent division as one of the major reasons the country remains trapped in underdevelopment.

“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point we need to start thinking for ourselves,” he wrote.

The rapper, who has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most vocal entertainers on social and political issues, emphasised that unity is the only path toward real progress. According to him, as long as citizens remain divided along ethnic and religious lines, corrupt politicians will continue to exploit those differences to maintain power and avoid accountability.

Falz’s comments come amid ongoing online debates between Christian and Muslim youths following a controversial statement by US President Donald Trump, who threatened to take military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians. The issue quickly escalated into heated arguments on social media, exposing the deep mistrust that still exists between religious communities in the country.

The “Bop Daddy” crooner said it was heartbreaking to see Nigerians engage in such divisive conversations at a time when unity is most needed. He argued that politicians often use identity politics to distract citizens from more pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and poor governance.

Falz, who has consistently used his platform to speak against injustice and bad governance, urged Nigerians to develop independent thinking and reject narratives that promote hate and suspicion. He maintained that the youth must take responsibility for reshaping the country’s future through unity and critical awareness.

“The same people who divide us are the ones who benefit from our disunity,” he implied in his message, calling for citizens to stand together beyond tribal and religious boundaries.

Over the years, Falz has championed several civic causes, including youth participation in governance and police reform. His latest remarks add to his long list of efforts aimed at promoting national consciousness and inspiring a new generation of politically aware Nigerians.
