Veteran music mogul Don Jazzy has responded to renewed discussions surrounding a 20-year-old car incident in London, addressing statements recently made by industry figure Bankulli. The conversation began after Bankulli recounted a story from Don Jazzy’s early years in the UK, suggesting that the Mavin Records boss fled the scene of an accident to avoid financial implications. The narrative quickly gained traction online, prompting many to question what truly happened and whether such an event could have possible legal consequences today.

Bankulli’s version of events painted a picture of a young Michael Collins Ajereh—now famously known as Don Jazzy—attempting to escape the costs associated with a damaged vehicle. In his claim, Bankulli said, “Just to survive, Don Jazzy had an accident back in London, he took out the plate number and ran away. Why? Because it will cost him more to tow the car out of there than to repair it.” His statement implied that the producer intentionally abandoned the vehicle in the Blackwall Tunnel area, sparking a wave of public speculation.

As the remarks circulated, fans began weighing in, some expressing shock and others treating the resurfaced anecdote as harmless nostalgia from Don Jazzy’s early days. Yet a portion of social media users raised concerns about whether leaving a vehicle under such circumstances could attract penalties if he were to travel back to the UK. The chatter grew loud enough that Don Jazzy eventually stepped forward to clarify the facts and set the record straight.

In his response, the respected producer downplayed the dramatic interpretations and corrected the assumptions embedded in Bankulli’s narrative. According to Don Jazzy, there was nothing illegal or incriminating about the situation. He wrote, “Lol no panic. It’s been so long so I don’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police.” His reaction made it clear that he did not flee the scene, nor did he attempt to evade law enforcement, as some had speculated.

Don Jazzy went on to explain what transpired when authorities arrived at the scene that day. As part of standard procedures, he was tested for alcohol to determine whether he was driving under the influence. He recalled, “The car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car so I left it with them lol.” With this explanation, he emphasized that abandoning the car was not an act of wrongdoing but a practical decision based on cost.

His clarification brought a sense of closure to the lingering discussion. By providing context, Don Jazzy neutralized any concerns about potential legal repercussions and dismissed the idea that he had behaved irresponsibly. Instead, he highlighted the reality of being a young immigrant hustling to make ends meet in a foreign country—something many of his fans could easily relate to.

The producer’s calm, humorous response effectively ended the debate, demonstrating once again why he remains one of the industry’s most respected voices both at home and abroad.
