American hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially begun serving his prison term at a federal facility in New Jersey, following his conviction for prostitution-related offenses earlier this year.

The 54-year-old music executive, who has long been regarded as one of the most influential figures in the global entertainment industry, is now incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix — a low-security federal prison located approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of New York City.

According to details from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the facility is known not only for its relaxed security structure but also for its emphasis on rehabilitation and drug treatment programs, which many inmates participate in as part of their reintegration process.

Court filings revealed that Combs’ legal team had petitioned for him to be moved to the Fort Dix facility, arguing that it offered a safer and more stable environment compared to the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he had been held since his arrest. The request was granted, and he is now expected to remain in custody until May 8, 2028 — the official date listed for his release, assuming he serves the full sentence.

Combs’ legal troubles began in September 2024, when he was arrested and charged with multiple offenses linked to the alleged transportation of individuals across state lines for prostitution. After months of court proceedings, he was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transporting people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. However, the jury cleared him of the more serious allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering — charges that carried far heavier potential penalties.

Before the final sentencing, Diddy stood before the court and gave an emotional address, expressing remorse for his actions and the impact they had on his loved ones and victims. “I’m truly sorry,” he said tearfully, his voice breaking as he apologized to his family and those affected by his conduct. “My behavior was disgusting, shameful, and sick.”

The four-year, two-month sentence handed down by the judge also takes into account the period Combs had already spent in pre-trial detention. His time at the Metropolitan Detention Center was reportedly difficult, with sources close to his legal team describing the experience as “mentally draining.”

Despite starting his prison term, Combs has maintained his innocence on several aspects of the charges and has filed an appeal challenging both the conviction and the length of the sentence. His legal representatives insist that procedural errors and questionable evidence played a major role in his conviction.

The case marks a dramatic fall from grace for one of the most powerful figures in hip-hop history — a man once celebrated for his business empire, musical influence, and cultural legacy.
