The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled the match ball for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by Morocco.
The new ball, named ITRI, was revealed on Monday and will make its official debut during the tournament’s opening match between hosts Morocco and Comoros.
According to CAF, the name ITRI means “star” in Tamazight, one of Morocco’s native languages, and serves as a symbolic representation of the star that appears on the Moroccan national flag.
The design of the ball draws inspiration from Morocco’s famous zellij art form a centuries-old style of mosaic tilework characterized by intricate geometric patterns and vibrant colors.
