Veteran Nollywood icon Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has raised a strong alarm over Nigeria’s rapidly escalating insecurity following the deadly attack on a church in Eruku, Kwara State. According to reports, armed assailants stormed the church during a worship service, opening fire and abducting several members of the congregation. The disturbing incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks that have shaken citizens across the country.

Taking to Instagram, RMD described the increasing cases of kidnapping, killings, and religious attacks as a national tragedy Nigeria can no longer overlook. He stressed that the Kwara church assault happened barely days after 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped and a school vice principal was murdered, demonstrating the frightening pace at which violence is spreading.

For RMD, these incidents are not just “another headline,” but clear signs that Nigeria is “gradually losing its moral and human compass.”

He wrote:

“What happened in Kwara is a wound to our collective soul. Innocent people, gathered in peace, met violence they did not deserve.”

The celebrated actor questioned why worshippers attending peaceful services must now fear for their lives. He emphasized that no family deserves to bury loved ones simply for practicing their faith. RMD also applauded Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo for boldly calling out the worsening security situation, insisting that his warnings should not be dismissed.

According to him, Nigeria must stop depending on “silence, evasive statements, and endless committees” while innocent lives continue to be lost.

Below are some of the reactions gathered online:

@iam____zeus:

“Another attack in Kaduna just this morning. This is what happens when a president is installed and not elected.”

@solu.mide79:

“We need the biggest massive protest everyone in Nigeria should come out.”

@kennypraise_focal:

“To my fellow Nigerians 🇳🇬 We need to wake up and take responsibility before our government completely destroys this country. In the past few months, kidnapping, banditry, and genocide have become rampant. Killing and abduction are now becoming normal in Nigeria, and this should never be so.”

@jmapelle_em:

“If the leaders are in your let them take the back seat until they get the job done, after all this is what they do to families that their children in church get pregnant or take alcohol. No more shame, no more empty glorification. Tell them to withdraw and reject their tithe. The people are watching.”

@royalpushunush:

“Lord I’m not crying but Nigeria needs quick intervention.”
