Popular Nigerian skitmaker and musician, Lawal Nasiru, better known as Nasboi, has opened up about his unique religious identity, revealing that he identifies as both a Muslim and a Christian.

The comedian made the revelation in a post shared via his X page, where he discussed his upbringing and how his diverse background has shaped his beliefs and outlook on life.

Nasboi explained that his father is a Yoruba Muslim while his mother hails from Warri and practices Christianity. This, he said, made him embrace both religions without discrimination or bias.

He wrote, “My papa Yoruba, my mama Warri. My papa Muslim, my mama Christian. I was born and raised in Port Harcourt. I studied at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom. This is why I can never relate to tribalism or all the religious agendas.”

The entertainer, who is widely loved for his skits that blend humor with social commentary, noted that his multi-ethnic and multi-religious background has influenced his tolerant view of religion and culture.

Responding to a curious fan who asked about his faith, Nasboi humorously replied that he is both a Christian and a Muslim. “I am Christmus both Christian and Muslim,” he wrote, coining a playful term to describe his religious blend.

His statement, however, sparked a wave of reactions across social media platforms. While some fans praised him for promoting religious tolerance and unity, others accused him of being “confused” about his faith. Some commenters also argued that such declarations could stir controversy in a country where religion is a sensitive topic.

Despite the mixed reactions, many supporters lauded Nasboi for his honesty and open-mindedness, emphasizing that his message reflected the importance of peace and acceptance in a multi-religious society like Nigeria.

Others highlighted that his background  growing up in Port Harcourt, schooling in Uyo, and having parents from two distinct faiths  exposed him to different beliefs and values, helping him build empathy across religious lines.

Nasboi, whose real name is Lawal Nasiru Bolaji, has continued to gain popularity not only for his comedy but also for his music and his ability to connect with fans through humor and humility. His career has been marked by creativity, with many of his skits addressing social and cultural issues in Nigeria.

By embracing both sides of his heritage, the entertainer seems to be sending a message of unity  that faith and humanity can coexist beyond religious labels.

His declaration as “Christmus” serves as both a reflection of his personal journey and a reminder that love and respect remain at the heart of peaceful coexistence in Nigeria’s diverse society.
