The Super Eagles touched down in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, early Sunday morning, as they gear up for their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
The team arrived at Victor Attah International Airport at 8:05 a.m., following an unexpected delay during their journey from Polokwane, South Africa.
The delay was caused by a mid-air incident on Saturday. The ValueJet flight, carrying players, coaching staff, and government officials, made an unscheduled stop in Luanda, Angola, for refueling. While the flight initially continued, the pilot had to return to Luanda only 25 minutes later after a loud crack was heard from the aircraft’s windshield. The precautionary maneuver ensured all passengers disembarked safely.
Officials from the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that all emergency procedures were properly executed and that an alternative plane was later provided to transport the team to Uyo.
Currently second in their group, the Super Eagles are set to face Benin Republic in a decisive final qualifying match. The squad is scheduled to hold a light training session later today at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in preparation for the game.
