Popular Nigerian singer and Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Okechukwu Justice, popularly known as J. Martins, has survived a near-fatal accident after his car veered off the road and plunged into a bush.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle lost control after suffering a brake failure while the singer was on transit. The malfunction caused the car to skid off the highway at high speed before landing in a thick bush by the roadside.
In a brief statement shared after the crash, J. Martins expressed deep gratitude to God for sparing his life, describing the experience as both “terrible and unforgettable.” He revealed that despite the severity of the incident, he miraculously escaped without a single injury.
“It was a terrible experience, but I thank God for saving my life. I came out of the vehicle without a scratch,” he said.
The news of the accident sparked concern among fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, many of whom took to social media to express relief and thankfulness for his safety.
J. Martins, known for hit songs like Good or Bad, Oyoyo, and E No Easy, has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene for over a decade.
Beyond music, J. Martins has also been actively involved in governance and public service. Earlier in 2024, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, appointed him as the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, recognizing his contributions to promoting creativity and culture in the state.
The singer has since used his platform to advocate for the development of Nigeria’s creative sector, emphasizing the importance of innovation, investment, and proper policy support for young talents.
While he did not give details on the extent of damage to his vehicle, J. Martins assured fans that he was in stable condition and would continue his duties both as a musician and as a public servant.
The near-tragic incident serves as another reminder of the increasing cases of accidents on major Nigerian highways, often caused by poor road conditions, vehicle faults, or lack of timely maintenance.
Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on long trips, particularly along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway, which has been notorious for accidents in recent years.
Meanwhile, J. Martins’ team has not yet issued an official statement beyond the singer’s remarks, but sources close to him confirmed he is resting and grateful for the outpouring of love from fans.
J. Martins’ survival is being described as a miracle by many, considering the speed at which his car left the road. His escape without injuries has further strengthened his faith, as he joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities who have survived life-threatening road accidents.
