US President Donald Trump has confirmed that music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs requested a presidential pardon following his conviction on two prostitution-related charges.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, October 6, 2025, Trump revealed that Combs, also known as Puff Daddy, reached out to him seeking clemency as he prepares to serve several more years in prison.
The revelation comes after U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison on Friday, October 3, following his conviction in the federal sex-crimes case.
The 53-year-old hip-hop mogul, who has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024, may be released in less than three years, with credit for time already served.
Combs’ legal team has indicated that they are considering an appeal, arguing that the judge imposed a sentence four times longer than requested and based partly on allegations not included in the conviction. Lead attorney Teny Geragos told ABC News, “The jury made it very clear in their verdict that they acquitted him of the sex trafficking and RICO counts. Not guilty means not guilty.”
In addition to the pardon request, Combs’ lawyers submitted a formal letter to the court seeking his placement at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal facility in New Jersey.
The request highlighted the importance of access to the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and other educational and occupational programs, emphasizing the need for rehabilitation and family visitation opportunities.
Geragos stated, “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
The case has captured public attention not only because of Combs’ celebrity status but also due to the high-profile nature of the trial.
The conviction marks a dramatic chapter in the life of the music and business icon, who has built an empire spanning music production, fashion, and entertainment.
The media coverage surrounding his sentencing and pardon request has sparked discussions about celebrity influence, the justice system, and the role of presidential pardons in high-profile cases.
Public reaction has been mixed, with some expressing support for Combs’ request for a pardon, citing concerns over sentencing fairness and alleged judicial overreach.
Others argue that no individual, regardless of fame, should receive preferential treatment in the legal system.
The debate has sparked conversations on social media and in news outlets across the United States and internationally, highlighting the broader implications of the case for legal accountability and celebrity culture.
This latest development underscores the ongoing attention surrounding Combs’ legal battles, as well as the potential impact of executive clemency on high-profile cases.
Whether the pardon will be granted remains uncertain, but Trump’s confirmation of the request has added a new dimension to an already widely discussed legal matter.
As the case unfolds, the world watches closely, with fans, critics, and legal experts weighing in on the implications of a possible presidential pardon for one of the music industry’s most influential figures.
The decision will not only affect Combs’ future but also shape public perception of justice, celebrity privilege, and accountability in high-profile criminal cases.
