Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami has announced a new project aimed at discovering and nurturing acting talent in Lagos State’s Ojo area. The initiative, titled “Project Make a Star in Ojo,” will be implemented through the Rotimi Salami Film Academy in collaboration with the Ojo Local Government.

The actor explained that the project is designed to give back to the community that shaped him while also providing aspiring actors with a platform to showcase their skills. Speaking to Biola Bayo on her podcast, Talk to B, Salami revealed that the project’s first movie will be called “Ojo Breed.”

Salami shared insights into his upbringing, emphasizing his deep connection to the area:

“I grew up in Ajangbadi, Ojo local government. I was born in Surulere, but my dad moved to Ajangbadi at a very tender age. All my life I spent in Ajangbadi. The Rotimi Salami you know is a full Ajangbadi breed,” he said.

He continued by acknowledging the resilience of people from his hometown:

“Kudos to all those who grew up where I came from, and who are still trying to make a living out of where they came from.”

Highlighting the purpose of the new initiative, Salami said, “I want to give back to Ajangbadi people. I’m working on a project – ‘Make a Star,’ and our first movie will be titled ‘Ojo Breed.’ 80% of the cast and crew will most likely be from Ojo.”

According to the actor, Project Make a Star in Ojo is not just about producing films but also about mentoring and training young actors in the fundamentals of acting, production, and filmmaking. The initiative will combine practical workshops with hands-on experience on set, giving participants the chance to work alongside experienced industry professionals.

Salami emphasized that he is open to partnerships with both individuals and organizations to ensure the project reaches its full potential. “I’m open to all forms of partnerships to execute the upcoming film project. Anyone who wants to support or collaborate is welcome,” he said.

The actor explained that he hopes the project will serve as a launching pad for talents from Ojo, helping them gain visibility in Nollywood and the wider entertainment industry. By prioritizing local talent, Salami aims to create opportunities for those who might otherwise struggle to break into the competitive world of Nigerian cinema.

In addition to casting local actors, Ojo Breed is expected to involve crew members from the community, including production assistants, set designers, and other essential roles in filmmaking. Salami’s approach reflects a commitment not only to storytelling but also to fostering community development and providing sustainable employment within the creative industry.

The actor concluded by reiterating his dedication to supporting the youth and promoting local talent:

“I want to inspire young people in Ojo to dream big and see that their background is not a limitation. This project is about giving them a chance to shine and telling our stories from where we come from.”

With Project Make a Star in Ojo, Rotimi Salami is positioning himself not just as an actor but as a mentor and advocate for the next generation of Nollywood talent, ensuring that local stories and actors have a platform to thrive.
