Afro-house queen Niniola Apata has debunked ongoing rumours suggesting she secretly got married, clarifying that she remains single and fully focused on her career.

For weeks, social media was awash with claims that the “Maradona” hitmaker had taken a step back from the limelight because she had quietly settled down. Some fans speculated that her reduced public appearances were part of an effort to keep her personal life private, fueling more curiosity about her relationship status.

However, in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Niniola finally spoke up, setting the record straight about the situation. The award-winning artiste stated that she is not married and has no reason to hide such news if it were true. She emphasized that people’s assumptions about her personal life are unfounded and driven mostly by speculation.

“I don’t care whatever anyone does or says [regarding my personal life]. After all, I’m not a 12-year-old. I’m old enough to say whatever it is I want to say with my full chest. I’m not married,” she said firmly.

The 38-year-old singer expressed her disappointment at how people tend to fabricate stories about celebrities without evidence. She noted that being a public figure often means living under constant scrutiny, but she has learned to ignore the noise and stay true to herself.

According to Niniola, she doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for how she chooses to live her life. She pointed out that fame comes with rumors and public assumptions, but maturity has taught her not to respond to every story circulating online.

“People will always talk. It’s part of being in the spotlight. Sometimes I step away to focus on myself or my craft, and suddenly, there are stories about me being married or pregnant. It’s laughable,” she reportedly told Yanga FM.

Niniola added that she intentionally takes time off the public scene to reset creatively, explaining that her absence doesn’t mean she has anything to hide. The singer said she prefers to focus on her music and personal growth rather than being pressured by online narratives.

In the same interview, Niniola also addressed the long-standing question from fans about why she hasn’t collaborated musically with her younger sister, singer Teni. Many music lovers have repeatedly expressed their desire to see the two sisters team up on a project, given their individual talents and success in the industry.

Responding to this, Niniola said the collaboration will happen only when the time feels right and under favorable circumstances.

“It has to happen when it’s meant to happen. Music is business, and there’s no family in business,” she stated.

She explained that although she and Teni have great personal and professional relationships, they approach music as a career that requires careful planning. The singer said they are both strategic and want their collaboration to have real impact when it eventually happens.

Niniola also praised her sister’s creativity, describing Teni as a “powerhouse of talent” and expressing pride in her achievements.

For now, Niniola said her attention remains on her music, upcoming projects, and connecting with her audience through her unique Afro-house sound.

“I’m just doing me — creating music, living my truth, and enjoying the process. When it’s time for something new, I’ll say it myself,” she concluded.
