I honestly wish I could say Love Recipe satisfied my cinematic appetite — but instead, it left a bitter aftertaste. From start to finish, the film struggled to find direction, offering a blend of weak storytelling, shallow characterization, and poorly executed production choices.
Let’s start with Betty, the supposed “rich girl” whose portrayal lacked every ounce of authenticity. For a character meant to exude class and affluence, her costumes were uninspired, her hair looked neglected, and her overall aura screamed average. Apart from a few dialogues with Dan, nothing about her persona reflected wealth or depth.
To make matters worse, the film never gave viewers a glimpse into her background. We were left guessing — how did she make her money? Was she a businesswoman or an heiress? The story offered no explanation. Instead, it hurriedly shoved her into a love storyline that felt both forced and emotionless. One moment she’s a mystery woman, the next she’s in love — without any buildup or believable chemistry.
The emotional scenes, especially during the attack sequences, were equally disappointing. Rather than evoking empathy, Betty’s delivery came across as hollow, as though she herself didn’t understand her own character’s motivation.
Then came Madam Abike, whose character design was another disaster. Her costumes were a visual nightmare — clashing colours, awkward fabric choices, and that unforgivable brown wig. For someone described as a high-end restaurant owner, she looked far from sophisticated. The costume designer clearly missed the brief, leaving the character’s supposed elegance lost in translation.
And then, there’s the title — “Love Recipe.” What recipe? There’s nothing remotely “loving” about the relationship between Dan and Phoebe. The connection felt empty, the emotions flat, and the chemistry nonexistent. The entire film failed to justify its own title, which feels like a random pick rather than a meaningful reflection of the plot.
In the end, Love Recipe turned out to be an undercooked story with no real flavour — a film that had potential but lacked every ingredient that makes a love story worth watching. Weak dialogue, uninspired acting, poor styling, and a disjointed plot made it a complete miss.
