Former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama, has shared her experience of going through menopause while serving in the White House, revealing the physical and emotional challenges she faced during that period.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast released on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the 61-year-old author explained that she first began experiencing symptoms during her husband Barack Obama’s first term as president. The changes came suddenly and were initially confusing.
Michelle revealed that despite the discomfort, she tried to push through the symptoms rather than seek immediate medical help. Balancing her demanding public duties as First Lady while managing menopause was especially difficult.
During one of her official trips, she reportedly suffered several hot flashes and struggled to maintain her poise while traveling and giving speeches. She noted that the experience felt like her body was burning up from the inside, leaving her drenched in sweat and constantly needing to change outfits.
Michelle eventually turned to hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which she said provided significant relief and helped her regain control of her health. She emphasized the importance of women being open about menopause and understanding the changes in their bodies.
The former First Lady encouraged women to embrace life’s transitions with positivity, stressing that aging should not be seen as a setback but a privilege.
Reflecting on her 60s, Michelle described the period as the best time of her life, filled with freedom, confidence, and gratitude. She also said she looks forward to her 70s and 80s, ready to continue evolving and enjoying every stage of life.
