The KAP Film & Television Academy marked a milestone with the graduation ceremony for its Filmmaking Residency Program, held in partnership with the Oyo State Government.

The event took place on Wednesday at the scenic KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, and celebrated the exceptional creativity of 165 emerging filmmakers selected from all 33 local government areas of the state.

Over the course of the 10-day intensive residency, participants received hands-on training supported by SONY and Kontakt Pro Nigeria, covering key aspects of filmmaking, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, producing, editing, and sound design.

A highlight of the ceremony was the screening of eight short films produced by the residency groups. Each film showcased collaborative storytelling and authentic depictions of local culture, earning praise and applause from faculty and guests.

Representing Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun described the program as a significant cultural and economic milestone for the state.

He said, “I commend Kunle Afolayan and the KAP team for establishing a creative ecosystem that promotes film, talent, and tourism in Oyo State. Congratulations to the students for their dedication, passion, and craftsmanship. Their work is a true representation of Oyo’s cultural pride and creative excellence.”

Kunle Afolayan, founder of KAP Film & Television Academy and visionary behind the Film Village & Resort, praised the State Government for providing a platform that empowers youth economically. He also emphasized the importance of discipline, creativity, and cultural identity in filmmaking.

He told the graduates, “Attention to details and commitment to creativity are non-negotiable for great filmmakers. These students have shown that talent, when nurtured in the right environment, can flourish into excellence. I encourage them to keep making films together and continue telling our stories with pride.”

Graduating students also received constructive feedback from industry veterans, including Tunde Kelani, Joke Silva, Kemi Adesoye, Rotimi Fakunle, and Lola Maja, who commended their storytelling, teamwork, and technical growth throughout the program.

The Oluigbo of Igbojaye, Oba Zaccheus Olatunji Oyeleke Alobaloke III, expressed his satisfaction with the program, noting that it fulfilled the objectives of the KAP Film Village and Resort as envisioned when he gave his royal blessing for its establishment.

The graduation marks another step in building a thriving creative ecosystem in Oyo State, fostering local talent and elevating the state’s position as a hub for film and cultural development.
