Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has publicly addressed an alleged impersonator on social media, accusing the individual of using her identity to manage a popular Facebook page with millions of followers. In a video shared on her Instagram page, Ojo revealed that the account, which now boasts 2.7 million followers, has been posting content under her name, spreading misinformation, and profiting from the traffic it generates.
The actress explained that the impersonator initially created the account using her name and photograph, misleading fans into believing the page was officially hers. When Ojo attempted to report the page to Facebook, she noted that the person running it had renamed it “Iyabo Ojo Lovers,” further complicating efforts to distinguish it from an official fan page.
“This video is directed to whoever it is that is impersonating me and using my name. It has 2.7 million followers on Facebook,” Ojo said. “I have tried to report this account to Facebook. The person went and changed it to Iyabo Ojo Lovers, so at the time, Facebook thought it was my fan page. This is not my page. I don’t know who owns it, and I don’t know who created it.”
Ojo expressed frustration over the impersonator’s activities, emphasizing that the issue had persisted for a long time but escalated when she realized the extent to which fans were attributing the page’s content to her. “A lot of people think I own the page. That’s why I joined Facebook myself, to report pages like this,” she stated.
In her message to the impersonator, the actress delivered a stern warning, insisting that her name and images be removed immediately. “Take my name off this page and my picture. Take it off. Because the next time you will look for this page, it will be gone. I’m not capping with you,” she said, making it clear that she would not tolerate further misuse of her identity.
She also criticized the impersonator for exploiting her fame to build a massive following. “You’ve used my name to gather 2.7 million followers. If you know you want to be a blogger, don’t be greedy. Create your own identity now,” Ojo added.
The actress went further to highlight the broader problem of impersonation on social media platforms, pointing out that multiple accounts have attempted to replicate her name and image on Facebook, TikTok, and other sites. According to her, these fake accounts not only mislead her fans but also threaten her credibility and brand. “Everything I post on my page, you go and post on this page. You are definitely monitoring me,” she said, expressing concern over how closely the impersonator appeared to track her activity.
Ojo emphasized that the issue is not just about fan confusion but also the illegal monetization of her identity. “Why are you using my name to be blogging? Making people feel like I’m a blogger. And it’s not funny anymore because you put my pictures there and you blog, you carry different news. It’s madness,” she said.
In addition to addressing the impersonator directly, the actress cautioned others against similar behavior, stressing that identity theft on social media is disrespectful and misleading. “I know there are a lot of people impersonating me on Facebook, on TikTok, everywhere. But this particular one has been verified and has a lot of followers. Every day I keep getting messages in my DMs like, ‘Did you write this? Did you post this?’” she said.
Ojo’s public confrontation underlines the challenges celebrities face in managing their digital identities and protecting their reputations online. With millions of followers involved, the actress’s warning serves as a reminder that impersonation can have serious implications for both credibility and personal branding, and that those behind such accounts may face consequences if they continue to misuse someone else’s identity.
