Beloved Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has finally confirmed what fans have long been waiting to hear  her official comeback to the movie scene.

Known for her magnetic screen presence and versatility in films like The Wedding Party, The Set Up, and Gangs of Lagos, Etomi-Wellington revealed that her recent break from acting was intentional and deeply personal  to focus on motherhood.

In a recent chat, the actress candidly shared, “I went to have a baby,” adding with laughter that she didn’t just disappear or “japa,” but took a needed break to embrace a new phase of her life. For Adesua, stepping away from Nollywood wasn’t about slowing down her career, but about honouring what truly mattered.

“Even though I’ve taken a bit of a break because it’s necessary to mother, soon I’ll be back,” she said. “I’m working on it.”

Her openness about motherhood and balance resonated deeply with fans who admire her authenticity. She admitted that maintaining equilibrium between her faith, family, and career hasn’t been easy but remains her top priority. “God and family; those are the two most important things to me,” she noted.

“I’m very blessed to have an amazing support system, and God is literally my rock through every season.”

Etomi-Wellington’s break from the spotlight has been filled with gratitude. Living partly abroad, she reflected on how motherhood has reshaped her perspective.

“I’m just grateful to have a family that loves me, to have the most beautiful, wonderful kids, and to still be part of the film industry,” she said. Her words capture a renewed sense of peace and fulfillment, proving that taking a pause can be an act of strength, not weakness.

Fans last saw her on screen in Japa, one of Nollywood’s standout releases before her hiatus. As she prepares for her much-anticipated return, Adesua expressed admiration for her industry colleagues who have continued to push creative boundaries.

One project that excites her is Ginger, directed by Yemi Morafa and starring her close friend Bisola Aiyeola.

“I love Bisola so much. That’s my sister and I stand ten toes down for her for anything she’s doing,” Adesua said with a proud smile.

She praised Ginger as a powerful testament to collaboration among women in Nollywood, saying, “I think it speaks to the power of women supporting women. I’d like to see more of it happen. I’m hoping this gingers more women in the industry to come together to create masterpieces such as this.”

Although she remains tight-lipped about the details of her next project, one thing is certain: Adesua Etomi-Wellington’s comeback is imminent. With her signature charm, talent, and resilience, her return is sure to reignite excitement among fans and filmmakers alike. “I’ll be back soon,” she promised. “I’m coming.”

Her words may be simple, but they carry immense weight  signaling not just a return to acting, but a renewed phase of purpose, creativity, and inspiration. For Nollywood lovers, Adesua’s return feels like the missing piece finally finding its way back to the big screen.
