Popular Nigerian media personality, Daddy Freeze, has opened up about his troubled marriage to his ex-wife, Opeyemi Olarinde, revealing intimate details about the painful experience and how it changed his life.

In a candid chat with Chude Jideonwo, the outspoken broadcaster disclosed that he got married at just 24 years old, while his ex-wife was 22. According to him, he only went through with the marriage because Opeyemi was pregnant at the time.

 “I only married her because she was pregnant. I wouldn’t have married her if she wasn’t carrying my child,” Daddy Freeze admitted.

The controversial former OAP recalled that their marriage was plagued by deep incompatibility. At one point, they were no longer sharing the same bedroom and were only appearing together at church.

Reflecting on the fallout of the union, Freeze said the divorce left him shattered — costing him his children, lucrative jobs, and his peace of mind.

 “The marriage broke me. It cost me jobs. I couldn’t even execute the few jobs I got because I was so broken,” he said.

Freeze also shared how, after the divorce, he was asked to sit at the back of his church. He lamented not seeing his children for almost a decade, revealing that they see him as “the devil.”

 “There was a time I couldn’t afford ₦10,000 to buy a birthday cake for my daughter. My kids see me as the devil, just like half of the world does,” he added.

The former OAP married Opeyemi in the early 2000s, and the union, which produced two children, collapsed in 2014 amid accusations of adultery and domestic violence from both sides. In a 2023 revelation, Freeze said he hadn’t seen his children in seven years and wouldn’t even recognize them on the street.

Freeze has since moved on and is now married to Benedicta Elechi. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in the UK officiated by controversial celebrity pastor Tobi Adegboyega. Speaking about his current marriage, Freeze noted that he has never raised his hand against his wife, though he sometimes shouts.
