Award-winning Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, has shed light on the fascinating story behind his famous stage name — a name that has now become a powerful brand in Nigerian hip-hop.

In a recent interview with BET Network, the rapper walked down memory lane, revealing that the moniker “Odumodu” came from a playful incident during his childhood. What started as an innocent attempt to scare someone eventually turned into a name that would define his musical journey.

“Odumodu means masquerade. So I tried to scare someone and he called me that name and I was like, ‘no don’t call me that,’” he recalled during the interview. “You know it’s that name you don’t want to be called.”

Although he initially rejected the name, it somehow stuck with him, resurfacing in an unexpected way during his school days. According to the rapper, the nickname became widely used after an encounter that involved his mother.

“One day my mom came to visit me in school and they were like, ‘yo, Odumodu’s mom is around,’ and she’s like, ‘who’s that?’ And I’m like, ‘that’s what it is,’ then I started making music,” he shared with a smile.

Before he fully embraced the name Odumodublvck, the rapper tried using another alias, which he now considers unoriginal and uninspired. He humorously admitted that his first stage name lacked creativity and uniqueness.

“The name I had first was T Flows – whack name. There are probably like a hundred thousand T Flows in the world, but there’s only one Odumodublvck,” he said, emphasizing the importance of standing out in the competitive music industry.

Odumodublvck also revealed that choosing to adopt the name was a conscious decision, even though it initially drew laughter from his friends. He saw something distinctive in it—something that represented his identity, background, and individuality.

“If I didn’t bear that name Odumodublvck till the end of the world, there would never have been another Odumodublvck. When I told my friends that my name’s going to be Odumodu Blvck they started laughing. I said, ‘yes, that’s the point. That’s the name there,’” he added.

His decision to keep the name turned out to be one of the best moves of his career. The name “Odumodublvck” has become synonymous with creativity, boldness, and originality. Beyond its uniqueness, the name carries cultural depth, connecting the rapper’s artistry to his African roots.

Over time, Odumodublvck has built a reputation for his distinctive sound, raw storytelling, and unapologetic confidence. His stage name has not only become a brand but also a symbol of authenticity and self-acceptance—a reminder that embracing one’s identity, no matter how unusual, can become a source of power and inspiration.

What began as a childhood nickname meant to tease him has now become a defining part of his legacy, proving that sometimes, destiny hides in the names we once resisted.
