Award-winning filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has disclosed that her highly anticipated December release, Behind The Scenes, was conceived under divine guidance.
Speaking during FilmOne’s end-of-year exhibitor showcase, Akindele explained that she initially intended to work on a sequel to her record-breaking film A Tribe Called Judah. However, she said she continually received instructions from God to abandon that project.
“We weren’t supposed to release ‘Behind The Scenes’. I actually wanted to release ‘A Tribe Called Judah 2’. We’d even started rehearsals, negotiations, you know, training. But the Spirit of God kept telling me, ‘No, you will not shoot that film,’” she revealed.
Akindele shared that she explored multiple alternatives, writing and reviewing four other scripts, and even considered collaborations with other filmmakers. Yet, she said divine intervention guided her toward creating Behind The Scenes.
“We tried, we tried almost four other scripts, lovely scripts, and the Spirit of God said, ‘You are joking’. We even wanted to partner with someone, a fantastic actor and filmmaker, but the Spirit of God said, ‘You’re wasting your time. You will shoot this film,’” she explained.
According to Akindele, the inspiration for Behind The Scenes stemmed from a single scene that struck her as deeply relatable. The story, she said, reflects real-life experiences that many people face, offering a narrative beyond the glamour often associated with the film industry.
“And the idea just came from one scene, and I said, ‘This is relatable’. A lot of people are going through what is happening in this film, what is going to happen, what you’re going to see in this movie,” Akindele stated.
Produced under the Funke Akindele Network, Behind The Scenes is set to premiere nationwide on December 12, 2025. The film promises to delve into the challenges, struggles, and realities often hidden from public view, offering audiences a story that resonates on a personal and emotional level.
The movie features a stellar ensemble cast, including Tobi Bakre, Veeiye, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, Ini Dima-Okojie, and Ibrahim Chatta, among others. Akindele’s selection of the cast underscores her commitment to portraying authentic and relatable stories through talented performers.
Akindele’s decision to release the film in December aligns with a successful tradition. Previous December releases such as A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa not only shattered box office records but also established her as one of Nollywood’s highest-grossing directors.
Through Behind The Scenes, Akindele continues to blend entertainment with meaningful storytelling. She has consistently leveraged her platform to produce films that are both commercially successful and socially resonant, reflecting her growth as a filmmaker and her understanding of audience engagement.
The anticipation surrounding Behind The Scenes is fueled not just by Akindele’s reputation but also by the promise of a narrative that goes beyond surface-level storytelling. By focusing on experiences that are often overlooked or concealed, she aims to connect with viewers on a deeper level, showcasing the realities behind fame, success, and everyday struggles.
Fans of Akindele and Nollywood enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the film’s December release, expecting a blend of powerful performances, relatable storytelling, and the signature energy that has made her productions box office hits. With Behind The Scenes, Funke Akindele reinforces her position as a visionary filmmaker who continues to redefine Nigerian cinema through creativity, authenticity, and divine inspiration.
