Former UFC Fighter Suman Mokhtarian Shot Dead in Sydney Suburb

 Former UFC mixed martial arts fighter, Suman Mokhtarian, has been shot dead in what authorities have described as a targeted and brazen attack in Sydney’s northwest.

According to the New South Wales Police, the 33-year-old was gunned down on Wednesday evening while walking in Riverstone, a quiet residential area in the city’s northwest. 

Police officers were called to the scene shortly after reports of gunfire, where Mokhtarian was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead before emergency services could reach him.

In a chilling twist, police later discovered two vehicles on fire at separate locations not far from the crime scene, a tactic investigators say is commonly used in organized crime-style executions that have become more frequent across Sydney in recent years.

Superintendent Jason Joyce of the NSW Police described the killing as very brazen and expressed concern about the growing wave of violence in the community.

Australian media reported that Mokhtarian had survived a previous assassination attempt in February when gunmen opened fire outside a gym in western Sydney.

Mokhtarian, who fought in the UFC between 2018 and 2019, competed twice before transitioning to coaching. He was known within the Australian MMA community as a respected trainer and mentor, helping to groom several of the nation’s rising talents, according to ESPN.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and disbelief after the shooting. A resident identified only as Ben told The Sydney Morning Herald that he and his wife were nearby when they heard the gunfire.

Another witness, Natalie, told ABC News that she ran to the scene after hearing the shots.

The murder occurred just a day after Sydney police intercepted an alleged ‘kill team’ equipped with firearms, balaclavas, fuel cans, and body-worn cameras near a daycare centre. Authorities are now investigating whether Mokhtarian’s death is linked to that foiled operation.

Police have launched a full-scale homicide investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in tracking down the shooters.
