American music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to be released from prison on May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, marking the end of a turbulent chapter in the hip-hop star’s life.
This announcement comes more than three months after a federal jury reached a mixed verdict in his highly publicized trial.
Combs, who has been in custody since September 2024, was handed a 50-month prison sentence after being found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The conviction followed a two-month trial that captured widespread attention due to its shocking details and the celebrity status of the accused.
However, Diddy was acquitted of the more serious allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, charges that could have resulted in decades or even life in prison had he been found guilty.
The verdict was seen as a partial victory for the rapper-turned-businessman, whose legal team argued that the government’s case was built on unreliable testimony and exaggerated claims.
Still, the 50-month sentence means Diddy will spend over four years behind bars, although his release date reflects time already served. Reports confirm he has already completed about a year in detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he has remained since his arrest.
Diddy’s legal representatives have confirmed that he is appealing both his conviction and sentence, maintaining his innocence and vowing to clear his name.
His attorneys also revealed that discussions had previously taken place with former President Donald Trump’s administration regarding a possible pardon though it remains unclear if those talks will be revived under the current government.
The case has been one of the most talked-about celebrity trials in recent years, shining an uncomfortable light on the entertainment industry’s darker corners.
Once celebrated as one of hip-hop’s most influential figures, Diddy’s empire has taken a significant hit following his legal troubles. Brands and collaborators distanced themselves after his arrest, and several properties associated with him have faced investigations.
Despite his fall from grace, Diddy’s team insists that the entrepreneur remains optimistic and focused on his legal battle. A source close to his family shared that they remain supportive and hopeful for his eventual vindication, even as the appeal process could take months or years to conclude.
As things stand, unless his appeal is successful or his sentence reduced, Sean “Diddy” Combs will walk free in 2028, closing a painful and controversial chapter that has shaken his reputation and career.
