Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has issued a strong warning to her fans and the general public about the activities of online fraudsters who are using her name and image to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
The celebrated actress, who has enjoyed decades of success in the Nigerian movie industry, took to her official Instagram page on Thursday evening to raise the alarm over fake social media accounts impersonating her. She explained that these accounts had been spreading false information, particularly about job opportunities in the United Kingdom, in an attempt to scam people.
Bukky Wright clarified that she had no connection whatsoever to the job post currently circulating online, describing it as a fraudulent scheme designed to exploit innocent fans.
In her words: “Please be cautious of fake accounts pretending to be me. I never requested money. I will never request personal information or private chat on any other account. This is my main page.”
The actress went on to explain that one of the fake accounts had published a post advertising supposed job openings in the UK and falsely linked her name to it. She said the post was completely fabricated and urged everyone who came across it to disregard it immediately.
“A post was made on my account offering a job vacancy in the UK and we realized it was fraudulent. Please disregard. Your safety and trust mean so much to me,” she added.
Bukky Wright, who is based in the United Kingdom, expressed concern over how scammers have been exploiting the trust of fans by impersonating public figures, especially celebrities. She warned that the fraudulent activity had become rampant and advised people to always confirm any information purportedly coming from her through her verified social media handle.
According to her, she does not communicate through unofficial channels or ask for private details, financial information, or payments in exchange for opportunities. She emphasized that she values her fans and would never put them in harm’s way by engaging in deceptive schemes.
Her warning comes amid a growing trend of cybercrime and impersonation involving public figures in the entertainment industry. In recent years, several Nigerian celebrities have reported similar experiences where scammers used their names or photos to run fake giveaways, investment opportunities, or job recruitment schemes.
Bukky Wright’s public advisory serves as a reminder to her followers to remain vigilant while navigating social media. She encouraged fans to pay attention to verification marks on celebrity accounts, double-check information before responding to offers, and immediately report suspicious pages.
The actress, who has built a reputation for integrity and professionalism throughout her long-standing career, expressed appreciation to her fans for their continued support. She reiterated that her verified Instagram page remains the only legitimate platform for communication.
By setting the record straight, Bukky Wright has joined a growing number of Nigerian entertainers using their platforms to combat online fraud and protect their fans from falling victim to cybercriminals.
