Nigerian Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has opened up about his family values and the importance of balancing fame with personal responsibility, stating that while he could afford to fail in music, he could never allow himself to fail as a father or husband.
Speaking in a recent episode of the NotJustOk Podcast, the “Orente” hitmaker reflected on his journey as an artist, a husband to fellow singer Simi, and a father to their daughter, Adejare. He explained that despite his success in the music industry, his family remains his greatest motivation and top priority.
Adekunle Gold, who is known for blending soulful storytelling with Afrobeats, noted that fatherhood has reshaped his purpose in life and inspired many of his recent songs. One of such songs, “My Love Is The Same,” was born from his determination to create a better life for his child.
“All I wanted to be is to do more for my own daughter because I can’t afford to bring her to the kind of life that I grew up living,” he said.
“It has to be way better. And that’s why I’m working hard. My family is my centre. I don’t joke with my family. I can afford to be a failed musician, not a failed father or a man. That’s not negotiable for me,” he expressed.
The “Something Different” crooner, who has consistently evolved musically since his breakout in 2015, said becoming a father gave him a deeper sense of responsibility. He emphasized that family, not fame, is what keeps him grounded.
Adekunle Gold also acknowledged the influence of his wife, Simi, describing their bond as both personal and professional. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, have frequently collaborated musically, creating hits such as “Promise” and “By You.”
Over the years, Adekunle Gold has transitioned from his early days as an urban highlife singer into a globally recognized Afropop artist. However, he maintains that his greatest achievements lie not in awards or hit records but in being a present and loving father and husband.
The singer’s revelation has since resonated with many fans, who praised him for his maturity and devotion to family. Adekunle Gold continues to inspire with his message of love, growth, and responsibility, showing that success in life extends beyond music charts and accolades — it begins at home.
