Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has officially released his highly anticipated album, Fuji, a 15-track project that celebrates the vibrant sounds of Lagos. Known for blending contemporary R&B with traditional Nigerian music, Adekunle Gold describes Fuji as both a musical journey and a cultural statement.

Fans are encouraged to listen to the album in sequence, as the singer explained, “Guys, all I ask is this: listen in order, no skips. Whether you know the songs or not, trust the sequence. It’s a journey, an experience you can only feel if you go from start to finish. Thank you.”

Prior to the full release, Adekunle Gold dropped four singles from the album, including “Obimo,” “Coco Money,” “Bobo” featuring Lojay and Shoday, and “Believe.”

With the album now available in its entirety, he is urging fans to experience it exactly as he intended  from start to finish  highlighting his desire for listeners to engage fully with the narrative and musical journey he has crafted.

Speaking to Apple Music, Adekunle Gold provided insight into the meaning behind the album’s title. He explained that Fuji started as an acronym: Finding Uncharted Journeys Inside

“But I’ve always included fuji sounds,” he said. “Since my first album, Gold, there’s been a fuji-influenced song on every project. Even when I sing R&B, the fuji essence is there. I wanted to share the sound I grew up on.”

The singer emphasized that fuji music represents the sound of Lagos, a reflection of his childhood experiences. “I grew up on it. My auntie played it constantly when I was a child. It’s everywhere  at parties, events, celebrations. It’s part of me,” he added.

The album draws heavily from Yoruba oral music traditions, including apala, fuji, and tungba, while telling personal stories across its tracks.

Songs like “Big Fish” recount Adekunle Gold’s journey in the music industry, while “Many People” reflects on the realities of success.

Tracks such as “My Love Is the Same” and “Believe” explore themes of family, love, and personal growth. Adekunle Gold’s commitment to culture is evident throughout the project. “I love my culture, my traditions, and heritage.

I will always uphold it. As Africans, we have a duty to showcase our culture. I will never stop doing that,” he said.

Adekunle Gold’s exploration of diverse sounds over his career has earned him a reputation as a versatile artist. With Fuji, he returns to the music that has consistently defined him, combining modern influences with traditional roots.

His message to fans is clear: immerse yourself fully in the album. “Headphones on, press play, and don’t skip. AG Baby’s journey deserves to be heard exactly as he imagined it,” he concluded.

Fuji marks a significant milestone in Adekunle Gold’s career, offering listeners not only entertainment but also a cultural experience rooted in Lagos’ rich musical heritage.
