The long-standing rift between Nigerian music stars Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay has once again taken center stage after both singers made fresh revelations in recent interviews, offering new perspectives on one of Afrobeats’ most enduring rivalries.
The tension between the two dates back several years, but things came to a head in 2021 when a video of their heated confrontation inside a Lagos salon went viral. Tiwa, visibly upset, rejected Seyi’s greeting and accused her of past disrespect, reigniting public interest in their long-rumored feud.
In a recent appearance on the OffAir Show, Seyi Shay opened up about a painful discovery that she says may have been at the root of the fallout. According to her, a former personal assistant confessed to having an affair with Tiwa Savage’s then-partner, Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun, a revelation she claimed left her shocked and heartbroken.
Seyi said she only learned about the situation years later, explaining that the incident created misunderstandings and emotional distance between her and Tiwa. She revealed that the ex-PA recently apologized and admitted that her actions caused the strain that tore the two women apart.
She said the revelation reopened old wounds and made her realize how much damage had been done. She also reflected on the friendship they once shared, saying it hurt to see it crumble because of lies and miscommunication. Seyi explained that she never set out to hurt Tiwa Savage and that for a long time, she carried the pain of being misunderstood.

Speaking on the same OffAir Show, Tiwa Savage tackled long-standing claims that she had sabotaged other female artists or “blocked their bags.” She dismissed the allegations as false and hurtful, saying she has always supported other women in the industry. Tiwa said it was unfair that people continued to push narratives that painted her as competitive or envious when her career was built on hard work and self-belief.
She also gave an example of how she once lost a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay while she was pregnant. She explained that she was dropped from the brand because she couldn’t meet certain appearance expectations at the time, not because of sabotage. The incident, she said, proved that she was never the kind of person to stand in anyone’s way.
Addressing the viral 2021 salon confrontation, Tiwa maintained that she could not pretend to exchange pleasantries with someone she believed had disrespected her in public. She said there had been repeated incidents and rumors that made it difficult for her to simply act cordial when the real issues had not been resolved.
Tiwa also stressed that she never tried to harm Seyi Shay’s career and that her refusal to engage that day was a matter of personal boundaries, not malice. She said she would rather speak the truth than participate in what she described as fake friendliness for the cameras.
Although Tiwa did not directly respond to Seyi Shay’s latest claims about the alleged affair, she emphasized that she is focused on peace and truth, not gossip or public drama. She also made it clear that while she does not hold grudges, she prefers to stay away from people who have caused her emotional distress in the past.
The two interviews have reignited conversations among fans and industry observers about the challenges of female solidarity in Afrobeats and the unspoken rivalries that often arise in competitive spaces. While both artists appear to have aired their sides of the story, there has been no sign of reconciliation yet.
