Popular TikTok content creator, Olas, has opened up about his terrifying two-day detention at Yaba Panti Police Station, Lagos, after he falsely posted online that Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa was HIV positive. According to him, the experience was the worst of his life since the loss of his mother.
Sharing his ordeal, Olas revealed: “I was locked up for two days in Yaba Panti because I posted that Actress Dayo Amusa has HIV. That was the worst experience of my life after the demise of my mum.”
The TikToker narrated how he was humiliated upon entering the cell. “When I entered the cell, one of the rugged-looking guys there told me to prostrate and greet them. There was no furniture there, only four pit latrines and an uncovered window with mosquitoes entering.”
Olas described the cell environment as inhumane. He said: “I begged them I wanted to use the pit latrine and they allowed. You can't imagine how the latrine looks like and the terrible smell coming out of there. There is no door separating the latrine from the cell so it’s just as if you are sleeping inside the latrine.”
He further revealed that there were over 60 inmates crammed into the same cell, many sleeping on the cold floor while only the leaders had access to old bunk beds. He also recalled that some inmates claimed the same cell once held controversial singer Naira Marley.
Fortunately, Olas said one inmate recognized him from TikTok and shielded him from harassment. “Luckily for me, one of the leaders in the cell recognized me and he said he followed me on TikTok. He protected me and didn’t allow me to suffer what they did to other newcomers.”
Expressing gratitude to Dayo Amusa, Olas added: “I want to thank Aunty Dayo Amusa for forgiving me. If not that she changed her mind and forgave me, I would have been there for a long time. I don’t pray to ever sleep in a cell again.”
This shocking revelation has stirred online reactions, with many fans applauding Dayo Amusa for showing forgiveness while others condemn the poor state of Nigerian police cells.
