Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that he has passed away, stressing that he is alive, healthy, and full of energy.
In a video shared via his official Instagram page on Friday, September 12, 2025, Agu assured fans and well-wishers that the rumours were false and urged them to disregard such misleading reports.
The actor, known for his comic roles and unique proverbs in Nollywood films, expressed gratitude to God for his life and health.
“Fans and family, please disregard any rumors about my death, and kindly report the page of the blogger who started spreading them. I am very much alive by God’s grace,” he said.
To further prove his wellbeing, Agu formally introduced himself in the video: “Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. Na who dig pit go fall inside.
Na who dig grave go fall inside. I am yet to carry my grandchildren and I must carry them in good health when my children are ready.”
The 68-year-old thespian emphasized that those spreading falsehood about his death were only seeking cheap attention. According to him, if such news had come from a popular blogging platform, he would have considered taking legal action.
“If it were any of the big bloggers who carried the false information, I would have sued them for defamation, economic and business damage, but the blogger involved is still struggling with likes,” Agu stated.
The actor further condemned the reckless behavior of individuals who exploit false news to gain traffic online, noting that such actions can cause unnecessary panic among family members, friends, and fans. He urged his supporters to always verify information before believing or sharing it.
Chiwetalu Agu, who has featured in over 200 Nollywood movies, has built a reputation as one of the most consistent and talented comic actors in Nigeria’s film industry.
His witty expressions and proverbial banter have earned him a loyal fanbase across Africa and beyond.
Over the years, Agu has faced several controversies, including a 2021 incident when he was arrested by soldiers for wearing Biafra-themed attire in Onitsha, Anambra State. He was later released after widespread condemnation of his arrest.
In his latest message, the Nollywood veteran said he remains committed to his craft and to mentoring the younger generation of actors. He assured fans that he intends to continue entertaining audiences for many years to come.
“I am still strong, still healthy, and by God’s grace, I will live long to enjoy my grandchildren and the blessings of old age. No evil plan against me will prosper,” he declared.
Agu’s clarification comes as another reminder of the dangers of fake news, which has become rampant on social media platforms in recent years.
