Controversial Nigerian social media critic and activist, Martin Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has unveiled a bold new project under his Ratel Movement. In an announcement that has since gone viral, the outspoken commentator revealed plans to mobilize his followers across Nigeria for monthly community service programs aimed at tackling environmental decay and inspiring civic responsibility.

In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, VDM disclosed that the initiative will officially begin on Saturday, November 29, 2025, with a series of sanitization and rehabilitation activities across different communities in the country.

According to him, the project is not just about physical cleanup exercises but also about igniting a culture of patriotism among young Nigerians. He explained that the Ratel Movement will no longer limit itself to online activism but will now engage in real-life projects that directly impact society.

VDM declared, “Starting from the 29th of November, 2025, which will be on a Saturday, we the Ratel Movement are taking over Nigeria, we are shutting down this country. That being said, we are not shutting down in terms of violence, we are shutting it down in terms of impact.”

The social critic emphasized that the project will include diverse community-oriented activities such as cleaning public spaces, clearing clogged drainages, renovating dilapidated school facilities, and carrying out grassroots development efforts. He believes that by taking such steps, the Ratel Movement will set a new precedent in Nigeria’s civic landscape.

“We are going to start what has never been seen before in Nigeria. We are going to be moving from just being on social media claiming to be Ratels to presenting ourselves in real life and impacting our society,” he added.

The announcement has drawn wide attention online, with many Nigerians taking to social media to express their views on the initiative.

One user, comr.212, praised the move, suggesting that VDM’s strategy has deeper implications for the Nigerian government. He wrote: “VDM is very smart, I know where he is going with this good work, Nigeria govt is in problem, great move 👏.”

Another supporter, officialadeshinaayomi, hailed him as a people’s leader, saying: “Nice one our president, it a good idea, God bless you.”

Similarly, fitronmayor pledged support for the cause by contributing refreshments, commenting: “I’m supporting with chilled drinks for the workers… Okija youth ❤️❤️🙌.”

Not everyone interpreted the announcement in purely civic terms. A user identified as sirking_0 connected it to politics, humorously remarking: “We are shutting down this country politicial mind first do gbim 😂😂😂 you all gonna learn.”

Meanwhile, razzyjo_to_the_world expressed strong solidarity with the Ratel brand, stating: “All kpai na kpai … na we be the Ratel…. If you hate this arm of government then you are part of the problem.”

For giwz_gt, VDM’s message carried deeper meaning, describing him as someone who transforms activism into something powerful and inspiring. He wrote: “This man has unique meaning to everything and it’s so interesting. He make his ‘quest’ adventurous and his ‘depth’ understood the game. Yes, there’s always a choice but he insists to implement the ‘awareness’ positively. Huge respect 🫡 @verydarkblackman 🤯✌️🫡🫡🫡🫡💙💙.”

The upcoming exercise is expected to be the first of many, with monthly community-driven events planned to foster long-term civic participation. For VDM, who has often been embroiled in controversies due to his blunt commentaries on politics, entertainment, and social issues, this initiative signals a new chapter in his activism — one that shifts from words to tangible action.

By introducing this project, VDM appears to be redefining the role of social media critics in Nigeria. Rather than limiting their influence to online platforms, he is attempting to convert digital movements into real-world social impact. Whether this project will sustain momentum over time remains to be seen, but the announcement has already ignited enthusiasm among his supporters nationwide.

With the first exercise set to kick off on November 29, all eyes will be on the Ratel Movement to see whether the initiative can live up to its promise of “shutting down” the country — not through unrest, but through visible and meaningful change.
