Celebrity stylist and fashion entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani, has called out Nigerians over their alleged fake sympathy following the tragic death of BBNaija winner Phyna’s sister.

According to reports, Phyna’s younger sister sadly passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, around 6:30 pm, after sustaining severe injuries from a Dangote truck accident that occurred days earlier. The grieving family has asked for privacy during this painful period and promised to update the public with details about her funeral arrangements.

Reacting to the heartbreaking news, Toyin Lawani took to her Instagram page to express her disappointment at the way many Nigerians handled the situation. She questioned why people often dismiss or mock others when they openly seek help, only to suddenly flood social media with condolence messages after tragedy strikes.

In her words

“I hope this is not true,

But if it is, I hope you lots are happy now and can finally rest,

When Phyna was busy crying and screaming out asking for help,

Half of y’all kept dragging her for silly reasons that had nothing to do with her sister’s life,

Nigerians lack empathy and emotional intelligence,

You all still wonder why some people don’t bother sharing their pain and illness on this platform, but the RIPs will be more plenty than the help. SMH.”

Toyin’s emotional outburst has sparked conversations online about the lack of empathy on Nigerian social media, especially toward celebrities. Many fans agree that people are quick to criticize public figures but fail to show genuine compassion when they need support the most.

The tragic death of Phyna’s sister is not only a painful loss for the reality star and her family but also a wake-up call about the toxic culture of online insensitivity.
