Nigerian singer and one-half of the popular music duo Bracket, Obumneme Ali, popularly known as Smash, has described the long-standing feud between Peter and Paul of P-Square as “spiritual.”
The revelation came during a recent appearance on the AFRIMMA Podcast, where Smash appeared alongside his bandmate Vast.
According to Smash, the tension between the Okoye brothers goes beyond personal disagreements or professional rivalry.
He stated, “I’m closer to Paul than Peter, but I always go to Peter’s house and he listens to me whenever I speak to him. But unfortunately, if you ask me as an in-house, I will say that problem is spiritual.”
He further explained that during his last meeting with Paul, he addressed the root of the conflict, telling him that his issues with Peter were not ordinary disagreements but spiritual in nature.
Paul reportedly agreed with Smash’s assessment, highlighting that the feud has deeper undercurrents than the public has been able to understand. “The last time I met Paul, I told him his problem with his brother Peter wasn’t normal, that it’s spiritual, and he agreed,” Smash said.
Smash also reflected on the closeness that once existed between Peter and Paul, emphasizing the bond they shared as brothers and collaborators.
“If you know how close these guys were and how they worked, you will feel so bad looking at what is going on today. Jude was part of P-Square. Paul and Peter, they loved that brand with so much passion,” he added, referencing their younger brother Jude Okoye, who played a crucial role in managing the duo’s career.
The P-Square brand, which once dominated the Nigerian and African music scene, has been marred by internal conflicts in recent years.
Fans and industry observers have long speculated on the reasons behind their split, but insights like those from Smash provide a rare glimpse into the personal and spiritual dynamics at play.
Bracket’s Smash, who is also a veteran of the Nigerian music industry, seemed to approach the topic with sensitivity, recognizing the enduring impact of the feud not just on the brothers, but also on the legacy of P-Square.
His comments suggest that resolving the issues may require more than mediation or negotiation; according to him, the conflicts are rooted in spiritual challenges that ordinary interventions may not easily resolve.
While Peter and Paul’s professional paths have diverged, with each pursuing solo careers, the feud continues to attract attention from fans and the media alike. Previous attempts by other artists, including D’banj, to mediate between the brothers reportedly yielded little progress, underscoring the complexity of the situation.
Smash’s revelations add a new dimension to the ongoing narrative surrounding P-Square, highlighting that the challenges the brothers face are not merely public disputes but deeply personal and spiritual. As the music industry and fans continue to watch closely, the hope remains that understanding the spiritual nature of the feud might eventually pave the way for reconciliation.
With Bracket’s Smash offering this perspective, it becomes clear that the story of P-Square is not just about fame or music but also about family, faith, and the unseen forces that influence human relationships.
