Ambassador Mike Premium, the legal adviser and close associate of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna (Ijeoma Josephina Otabor), has spoken out on the controversy surrounding the tragic death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.
He strongly refuted viral claims that Phyna demanded ₦1 billion from the Dangote Group after Ruth was killed in an accident involving a company truck. Instead, he revealed that the family’s only request was for Ruth to be flown abroad for urgent medical treatment, which never happened.
“All We Wanted Was Treatment Abroad, Not ₦1bn”
According to Ambassador Premium, he immediately began working behind the scenes after Ruth’s accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, where a Dangote truck hit her.
Ruth suffered life-threatening injuries, including a leg amputation, and doctors reportedly agreed she needed treatment in India. Despite promises, her medical evacuation was delayed indefinitely, which Premium says led to her untimely death.
Blogs Face Legal Heat Over False Claims
Ambassador Premium condemned the online platforms that spread the story of a billion-naira demand, describing it as false, malicious, and defamatory.
“These blogs will face lawsuits because they are tarnishing Phyna’s reputation and playing with her mental health while she is grieving,” he warned.
He also reminded the public that Phyna had personally supported Ruth’s education, stressing that the focus should be on justice and accountability—not false rumors.
Dangote Group’s Response Under Scrutiny
The Dangote Group released a condolence statement acknowledging that plans for Ruth’s overseas treatment had been in motion, pending clearance from doctors. The company also reportedly contributed to her funeral arrangements.
However, critics insist that the delay in executing those medical plans raises troubling questions about corporate responsibility and timely intervention.
“Justice for Ruth” – What Comes Next
Ambassador Premium has vowed to seek justice both in court and in the public domain. He confirmed that lawsuits would be filed against defamatory publications while also pursuing accountability for Ruth’s death.
Legal proceedings are expected to review medical records, communication timelines, and the role of the Dangote Group in the delayed treatment that may have cost Ruth her life.
Conclusion
At the heart of this case is not a billion-naira compensation, but the haunting question: Could Ruth Otabor have survived if she had been flown abroad on time?
For now, Nigerians rally behind Phyna with the call for Justice for Ruth, as the tragedy continues to spark national debate about corporate accountability and the power of misinformation.
