Nigerian broadcaster Oseni Rufai has commended celebrity chef Hilda Baci for setting a new milestone by preparing the largest pot of Jollof rice, describing the achievement as a symbol of resilience and national pride.
Sharing his thoughts on X on Saturday, Rufai defended the event from those who criticized it as a distraction from Nigeria’s economic struggles.
“Hilda Baci is the true reflection of the great Nigerian spirit. For those saying her feat is a distraction from the poverty and hunger, I disagree, it’s a testament to the fact that Nigeria can break records. We can resume talking about the bad governance tomorrow but today, we celebrate Hilda Baci, today we celebrate Nigeria. We must hold our leaders accountable,” he wrote.
Hilda, who rose to global fame in 2023 with her Guinness World Record cook-a-thon, unveiled her giant Jollof rice pot on Friday at Eko Hotel, Lagos. The dish served thousands and attracted a massive crowd eager to witness history.
The event was widely hailed as more than just a culinary achievement, but also a vibrant display of Nigerian culture and creativity.
