Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwurah has expressed deep concern over the growing toxicity of social media in Nigeria.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the award-winning actress lamented how online platforms have become breeding grounds for misinformation, witch-hunting, blackmail, and outright lies. She questioned why many Nigerians now see social media as an acceptable space to tear others down rather than uplift.
“I never cease to wonder how it became so bad in Nigeria that online media has become an acceptable platform to misinform, witch hunt, blackmail, broadcast outright lies, and just wish evil on others,” she wrote.
Clarion suggested that some online content creators and their sources may be projecting their own misery, unable to stand seeing others thrive.
Addressing those spreading falsehoods about her, the actress made it clear that her strength and journey have only been possible through the Word of God.
“To the unfortunate specimens out there peddling falsehood about me, I have come this far not by my own power because I have no power of my own, but by the WORD Of The LORD… In Jesus Christ, I am secured and remain strong,” she declared, citing Bible verses including Isaiah 54:15–17 and Genesis 12:3.
Ending her post, Clarion boldly affirmed: “Jesus Christ is Lord.”
Meanwhile, Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde weighed in on the influence of social media, describing attention as the new currency. She questioned the extent people are willing to go just to trend online, warning that blind pursuit of virality could turn individuals into slaves to the algorithm.
