Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has sparked intense online discussion after delivering a scathing message to women who choose to become second wives.

The actress, known for her outspoken views and strong moral stance, shared her statement on Instagram in alignment with a cleric’s message, criticizing the practice as morally and socially harmful.

In her post, Rita described women who enter polygamous arrangements as second wives as “greedy” and “inconsiderate,” arguing that their actions are often built on the pain and tears of others. She insisted that the role of a second wife brings neither respect nor true happiness but instead invites shame and misfortune.

“IF YOU’RE A SECOND WIFE, YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A W!TCH,” Rita wrote. “YOU ARE NOT INNOCENT, YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL, YOU ARE JUST GREEDY. YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO FEED ON ANOTHER WOMAN’S TEARS, TO BUILD YOUR HAPPINESS ON SOMEONE ELSE’S PAIN.” She cautioned that labeling such relationships as “love” or “destiny” is misleading, stressing that it is, in reality, an act of covetousness.

Rita went further to denounce the glorification of second wives, emphasizing that they are not queens but usurpers. “YOU STOLE WHAT WAS NOT YOURS, AND YOU EXPECT TO BE CELEBRATED? NEVER. A SECOND WIFE IS NOT A QUEEN. SHE IS A USURPER. YOU ARE THE THIEF THAT SLIPPED INTO ANOTHER WOMAN’S HOME PRETENDING TO BE A BRIDE,” she said.

The actress also warned of the consequences for women who cause pain through such arrangements. “THE SAME TEARS YOU CAUSED WILL CRY AGAINST YOU, THE SAME PAIN YOU CAUSED, WILL VISIT YOUR DOORSTEP. THERE IS NO GLORY IN BEING A SECOND WIFE, ONLY SHAME, CURSES, AND THE UNENDING REMINDER THAT YOU COULD NEVER BE FIRST,” Rita added.

Her statement encourages women to avoid returning to toxic marriages or building relationships that exploit others’ suffering.

By speaking out, Rita aligns herself with a growing movement in Nigeria urging for ethical conduct in relationships and respect for family integrity.

The post has since ignited conversations across social media platforms, with followers and critics debating the ethics of polygamy and the responsibilities of women in marital choices. Rita’s boldness in addressing sensitive social issues highlights her influence as a public figure and the impact of celebrity voices in shaping societal norms.

Through her Instagram sermon, Rita Edochie continues to champion accountability and morality, urging women to reflect on the consequences of their decisions and the value of ethical behavior in personal relationships.
