Reality TV star Leo Da Silva has advised Nigerians against dictating how people should grieve the loss of their loved ones.
His comments come in response to the case of a content creator who recently lost his wife and faced criticism for posting online shortly after her passing. The creator explained that staying active online was necessary to provide for his three children.
Leo questioned the moral grounds for judging how others mourn, stressing that grief is personal and that empathy is crucial, especially for those balancing loss with financial responsibilities.
“This guy makes content with his wife and his wife just died leaving him with 3 kids. Nigerians are telling him to go offline to mourn. He’s telling them he needs to be online so he can feed his family. Who tf are you to tell anyone what to do after they lose their loved one?” he wrote.
The situation also prompted others to share their own experiences. A widower recalled being judged for how he handled grief, saying: “When I lost my wife 3yrs ago, people asked me to stop posting about my business online and on my status because to them it was insensitive. These were people who didn’t even contribute a kobo to her coffin nor burial.”
Leo’s intervention highlights the importance of compassion and understanding in supporting those navigating personal loss.
