Celebrity barman, Cubana Chief Priest, has sparked fresh debate online after describing Nigeria’s healthcare system as a complete “joke.”

The nightlife promoter, who is known for his outspoken personality, took to social media on Sunday, September 22, 2025, to share his frustration over the state of hospitals in the country following his recent experience in Lagos.

Chief Priest revealed that he had walked into a hospital in Ikoyi, where he had been a regular patient for years, only to be left unattended for more than an hour after his vitals were checked.

According to him, despite feeling unwell and waiting patiently, no doctor was available to attend to him. Out of respect for the facility, he chose not to disclose its name, but he made it clear that the service left him deeply disappointed.

“Honestly health care is a joke in this country. Walked into a hospital I have been using in this Ikoyi for years sick. After vitals it’s over an hour plus & no doctor is available. I no wan post the hospital because I understand what business is all about,” he lamented.

The entertainer further narrated that he later proceeded to another hospital in Lekki, hoping for better treatment. However, the process there was no less frustrating.

He explained that he was required to fill out a lengthy online form before even getting the chance to see a doctor. Feeling exhausted and unimpressed by the system, he eventually abandoned the process and went to a pharmacy where he purchased medications for malaria and typhoid.

“Well I don go med plus go buy medication for typhoid and malaria. If I reach UK make I do proper health care there. It’s a shame sha, na God dey save person for this country,” he added.

His outburst has since gained wide attention on social media, where many Nigerians echoed similar frustrations about delays, lack of doctors, and the overall poor state of public and private health institutions.

Others, however, argued that celebrities like Chief Priest should use their influence to push for reform and invest in better health infrastructure locally instead of rushing abroad for medical treatment.

Chief Priest’s remarks highlight a recurring concern among citizens over the nation’s healthcare system, which continues to face criticism despite government promises of reform. Issues such as inadequate staffing, outdated equipment, and bureaucratic bottlenecks have plagued Nigerian hospitals for decades, leaving many patients to either endure long waits or seek alternative treatment options.

While Cubana Chief Priest may not have named the hospitals in question, his experience resonates with countless Nigerians who have had to deal with similar challenges. For many, his viral post is not just a celebrity rant but another reminder of the urgent need for a healthcare system that prioritises timely, efficient, and quality service delivery.
