Afrobeats singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has revealed how he lost a staggering ₦19 million in a failed diesel business deal when he was just 19 years old.
The “Skin Tight” hitmaker shared that at the age of 19, he boldly ventured into the oil and gas sector with the hope of supplying diesel to telecommunications giant MTN. To finance the business, he raised a total of ₦19 million from two key sources: his uncle and a friend’s father. However, the deal unexpectedly crashed when deregulation of fuel prices hit the market, forcing him and his partners to sell off at a huge loss.
Speaking about the experience, Mr Eazi admitted it was a painful setback but emphasized that it became a defining lesson in his entrepreneurial journey. According to him, that early failure prepared him for the resilience needed to succeed both in music and in business. Today, Mr Eazi is not only recognized as one of Africa’s global music exports but also a successful entrepreneur with investments spanning tech, music distribution, and creative industries.
Despite the financial loss, social media users had mixed reactions, ranging from shock to admiration of his drive at such a young age.

The story of Mr Eazi losing ₦19 million at 19 has now gone viral, further cementing his reputation as a risk-taker whose failures only paved the way for his eventual rise as a global Afrobeats star and investor.
