Nigerian rap icon Olamide has waded into the ever-heated “Big 3” conversation that has dominated the music industry in recent years.
The debate, which places Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy at the forefront of Afrobeats supremacy, has divided fans and sparked endless arguments online. However, Olamide has made it clear that he is unbothered by the comparisons, insisting that his only priority is creating timeless music.
During a livestream session with UK-based media personality Adesope Olajide, popularly known as Shopsydoo, Olamide was asked if he cared about being ranked alongside the so-called “Big 3.” In response, he dismissed the discussion as something he has no interest in.
“I don’t care about the Big 3,” the rapper declared. “If I am in the mood for it tomorrow, I would do what I want to do. But that’s not my p, and I respect it if that’s somebody else’s cup of tea. It’s just not my own cup of tea I just want to make good music.”
The “Wo” crooner emphasized that for him, music has always been about passion and creativity rather than rivalry or competition. He noted that while the industry thrives on conversations that generate buzz, he prefers to focus on his art and the legacy he continues to build.
Interestingly, Olamide also spoke about his relationship with Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. He described them as friends but humorously noted that they can be “too troublesome” at times.
“Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are all my friends. They are cool dudes; it’s just that sometimes many can’t align on so many things and that’s fine,” he said.
His comments come at a time when fan wars and online stan culture often fuel divisions among supporters of the three biggest names in Afrobeats.
Many fans constantly engage in heated debates about who has the most international recognition, the highest streaming numbers, or the biggest impact on global stages. Olamide’s stance, however, reflects his maturity and focus on longevity rather than fleeting popularity contests.
The rapper, who is credited with mentoring some of Nigeria’s hottest new stars such as Fireboy DML, Asake, and Adekunle Gold, has earned respect as a pioneer who continues to shape the sound of Afrobeats and street music. His decision to step away from such comparisons further cements his image as an artist more concerned about his influence than industry chatter.
Fans have since reacted to his statement, with many praising his humility and focus. On social media, some argued that Olamide deserves a place in the “Big 3” conversation, while others agreed with him that the debate only fuels unnecessary rivalry.
As one of Nigeria’s most consistent hitmakers for over a decade, Olamide’s contribution to Afrobeats cannot be understated.
Whether or not he is part of the “Big 3,” the rapper has carved out a unique space for himself in music history. For him, the mission remains simple: to make great music that will stand the test of time.
