Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has sparked fresh debate ahead of the 2027 general elections by declaring that he will support whichever political party offers him financial backing first.

The singer made the statement in a viral video shared on his Instagram page, addressing his fans and followers directly about his intentions.

Portable emphasized that his political endorsements will be guided purely by monetary considerations, regardless of party affiliation.

“I can’t be campaigning around and be hungry,” he said, underscoring his reasoning for linking support to financial incentives. He urged his fans to ensure their voter cards are ready, signaling that he is serious about influencing political participation.

In the video, Portable said, “My fans, hope your voter’s cards are ready? We will be voting for any candidate that gives us money.

Election is starting soon. I’m voting for anyone that gives me money, that can help my life. I’m the owner of my life and my voter’s card. Bring the money and let me help my people, the people are hungry.” His remarks clearly reflected both a humorous and provocative approach, consistent with the persona he has cultivated in the Nigerian entertainment scene.

Portable further detailed that his support is not limited to major parties. “If it is APC that first brings the money, they will own me. If PDP come first, I will also collect. Even if it is Peter Obi, I will ask you to vote for him. Vote for anyone who gives you money.

Vote for your helper,” he stated, leaving no ambiguity about the transactional nature of his political endorsements.

This is not the first time Portable has made headlines in the political arena. In 2024, he publicly called out President Bola Tinubu for failing to offer him financial support despite his backing during the 2023 presidential election.

His candidness has made him a polarizing figure, as fans and critics alike debate the ethics and influence of celebrity involvement in politics.

Portable’s approach highlights a growing trend among entertainers in Nigeria using their platforms to assert influence over political outcomes.

While some see this as a playful or satirical commentary on the transactional nature of politics, others express concern over the potential impact on democratic participation.

The singer’s remarks also draw attention to the socio-economic realities facing ordinary Nigerians, as he framed his support in terms of helping himself and his community amid widespread economic challenges.

Portable’s statements have since gone viral on social media, generating both support and criticism.

While some applaud his candor and humor, others question the moral implications of linking political endorsements to personal financial gain. Regardless, the singer’s comments have ensured that he remains at the center of public conversation as Nigeria approaches another critical election year.
