The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular comedian and skitmaker Sanku Comedy, who tragically lost his life in a car accident along the Oyo-Ogbomoso road in Ibadan on September 1, 2025.
Reacting to the devastating news, Yoruba actress Funmi Awelewa took to her Instagram page to share her grief. She revealed that upon hearing the news of the crash, she immediately sent one of her students, who lives close to Bowen Hospital, to verify his condition.
According to her, they were initially told he was responding to treatment, which gave them hope. Sadly, his passing was later confirmed.
Funmi Awelewa poured out her heartbreak, reflecting on his struggles and efforts:
“When I saw the news online, I quickly sent one of my students who stays close to Bowen hospital, and he told me that he met one of your friends at the hospital who told us that you’re responding to treatment. I prayed to God, we prayed.
Kilowa de bai oloun.
Haaa Olorun Oba o.
The pain, the effort, the strength, the struggle… Walai, nothing makes sense.
I’m heartbroken.
Even the film sef never come out! It does not make sense fr.”
Also mourning the late comedian, actress Regina Chukwu shared her sorrow and sympathized with his mother, describing the loss as deeply painful.
She wrote:
“I heard the most devastating news today, and I am broken.
This is so sad.
I feel for you, momma.”
The sudden death of Sanku Comedy has left colleagues, fans, and the entire Nollywood community in shock, with many recalling his vibrant energy and dedication to his craft.
