Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has once again made history as Guinness World Records (GWR) officially confirmed her latest achievement of cooking the largest pot of jollof rice.
The confirmation, announced on Monday, September 15, 2025, has added another feather to the chef’s cap and solidified her status as one of Africa’s most influential culinary figures.
The event, which took place in Victoria Island, Lagos, was organized in partnership with Gino, one of Nigeria’s most popular food brands.
According to GWR’s announcement on its official X handle, the record was for the “largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice, 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz), achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
The sheer size of the pot, coupled with the excitement of the crowd in attendance, turned the event into a cultural celebration beyond just a cooking record.
This isn’t Baci’s first time making global headlines. In May 2023, she stunned the world by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, spending 93 hours and 11 minutes at the stove.
That historic achievement earned her not just the admiration of Nigerians but also international recognition, putting her name in conversations about resilience, creativity, and African culinary heritage.
Speaking after the confirmation of the new record, fans and admirers of the chef flooded social media with congratulatory messages, describing her as an inspiration for young Nigerians who dream of breaking barriers.
Many noted that her latest feat goes beyond food it is about showcasing Nigerian culture to the world. Jollof rice, one of West Africa’s most iconic dishes, has always been a symbol of pride and rivalry across the region, and Baci’s success with the dish has reignited debates about Nigeria’s dominance in the “Jollof wars.”
Observers also believe the partnership with Gino was a smart move, highlighting the synergy between local brands and cultural icons in driving national pride. For many Nigerians, the achievement reflects resilience in the face of challenges and the power of determination in turning dreams into reality.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians have in the past praised Hilda for her courage and consistency in promoting the country’s image through her culinary craft.
During her cooking marathon in 2023, Tinubu famously described her as proof that “Idan doesn’t break,” a phrase that has since become associated with her achievements.
With this latest Guinness World Record, Hilda Baci has further established herself as a global culinary powerhouse. Her journey continues to inspire millions, especially young women across Africa, proving that with passion, consistency, and courage, boundaries can be pushed, and history can be rewritten.
For now, her record-breaking pot of jollof rice will remain a talking point, not just for its size but for what it represents a celebration of Nigerian food, culture, and the unstoppable spirit of a chef who continues to redefine excellence.
