Veteran Nollywood actress, Doyin Kukoyi, has addressed the speculation surrounding her alleged marriage to popular Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo.

The screen star clarified that the rumors making rounds on social media are untrue and only stemmed from a movie role the duo played together.

Speaking in an interview on Nollywood on Radio, Kukoyi explained that the speculation began after she posted a behind-the-scenes picture from a film set where she and Ogogo acted as husband and wife.

According to her, the simple snapshot spiraled into widespread gossip that she was romantically involved with the veteran actor.

“I was at a movie location with Ogogo, we both played the roles of husband and wife. We took a picture, and I shared it on social media. Some people then assumed we were married. Till today, many still believe I’m Ogogo’s wife,” she said.

Kukoyi expressed her amusement at how quickly fans and blogs ran with the story, stressing that while she has great respect for Ogogo, their relationship is purely professional.

She further urged her fans and the general public to stop linking her name romantically with the actor, emphasizing that the narrative is misleading and damaging.

The actress, who has spent over three decades in Nollywood, also used the opportunity to reflect on her career journey.

She revealed that her first exposure to the entertainment industry was through her work at Daar Communications, before fully delving into acting.

Over the years, Kukoyi has become a household name in the Yoruba movie industry, featuring in countless films and earning recognition for her versatility and longevity on screen.

While dismissing the marriage rumors, she noted that such assumptions are part of the challenges celebrities face in the age of social media.

“People are quick to draw conclusions without facts. As actors, we often play roles that may not reflect our reality, but once it’s on social media, people choose to believe what they want,” she added.

Her clarification comes amid heightened interest in the personal lives of Nollywood stars, where pictures or roles often spark stories that may not hold water. For Kukoyi, her focus remains on her craft and preserving the legacy she has built in the film industry.

Ogogo, on his part, has not publicly commented on the issue, but his name continues to trend alongside Kukoyi’s each time the rumor resurfaces online. Fans, however, appear divided—while some find the speculation humorous, others insist that social media users should be more cautious in spreading unverified claims about public figures.

Kukoyi’s statement, therefore, sets the record straight and highlights the thin line between reel and real life in Nollywood.

She remains one of the most respected figures in the Yoruba movie industry, admired for her professionalism and dedication to the craft, regardless of the occasional controversy that surrounds her name.

With over 30 years in the industry, Kukoyi’s story is also a reminder of the resilience and adaptability required to stay relevant in Nollywood, even as trends and narratives change with each generation.
