Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Badmus — popularly known as Portable — has publicly warned an alleged look‑alike he says is “collecting” his bookings and undermining his music brand.
In a fiery post that has since circulated across social platforms, Portable wrote: “I heard that someone who said he is my look‑alike is taking my shows. Nobody can be like me. He can’t talk like me. If I say they should be@t him to de@th now, you all will be looking for justice for him and you will be writing petition. He can’t collect my own show, someone they are paying just N250k whereas I am being paid over 10million for one show.
"Dear Look‑alike be very very careful.” The statement — equal parts threat and brand defence — has amplified debate about impersonators and fake-booking scams in Nigeria’s live-event market.
Portable’s complaint touches two hot-button topics for performers and event organisers: impersonation and payment disparity.
Artists in Nigeria have long faced booking scams where third parties pose as talent or intermediaries and take advance fees or accept reduced pay — leaving the real act out of pocket and reputation. Portable’s claim that a supposed doppelgänger is receiving as little as N250,000 per gig while he commands “over 10 million” signals both anger and an attempt to protect his market value and brand identity.
