Nigerian music superstar Davido has officially become a member of the Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the Grammy Awards.
This new role gives him voting rights, allowing him to influence the outcomes of one of the most prestigious music award events globally.
Speaking about the milestone in a video statement, Davido described it as “a gamechanger” for both his career and the broader African music scene.
“I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season,” he said.
The artist added that joining the Academy is a responsibility and an honor. “I am excited to join the Recording Academy and to participate in shaping the future of music recognition globally,” Davido remarked.
Davido’s journey to this achievement has been marked by consistent international recognition. He first earned three Grammy nominations at the 2024 Awards but did not secure a win in any category.
His fourth nomination came through his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay on the track Sensational, which was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammys. However, the award went to Tems for her hit Love Me Jeje.
Industry experts view Davido’s membership as a major step for Afrobeats on the global stage. “This is not just a personal milestone for Davido, but a historic moment for African music.

The Recording Academy, known for setting high standards for music recognition, allows members to vote in various categories, from Album of the Year to genre-specific awards.
