Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, recently shared a lighthearted anecdote about an early morning visit from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a post on his X account last Friday, Charly Boy revealed that Obi called him late at night, requesting to drop by his home around 5:30 a.m. the following morning. True to his word, Obi arrived promptly at 5:45 a.m., proving he doesn’t adhere to the infamous “African time.”
Charly Boy recounted his surprise upon seeing a large “Ghana Must Go” bag at the entrance of his sitting room. Initially unsure of its contents, he spent about two hours chatting with Obi about politics, Nigeria, and family matters before Obi finally said, “See small thing I bring for you.”
When Charly Boy checked the bag after Obi left, he couldn’t help but laugh. It was filled with an assortment of roasted groundnuts, kolanuts, alligator pepper, pawpaw, oranges, bananas, mangoes, and other fruits—all personally selected by Obi.
He shared Obi’s words with his followers: “Senior, I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.”
Describing the gesture as an example of “native intelligence,” Charly Boy explained that it touched him far more than money could. “Sometimes na the little things go remind you say life no too hard. Na kolanut and bitter kola wey Obi dash me sweet me pass money,” he wrote, adding that the experience left him feeling genuinely joyful.
