Spotify has recognized Nigerian singer Ayra Starr as the biggest female Afrobeats artist over the last 12 months, highlighting her rapid rise in the global music scene.

The streaming giant recently released its list of ‘Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists In The Last 12 Months,’ with Ayra Starr taking the top spot.

The platform hailed Ayra Starr as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” a testament to her consistent delivery of hits that have resonated with fans both locally and internationally.

Her unique blend of Afro-pop, soul, and energetic performances has made her a standout figure in the genre, earning her recognition from both Spotify and other music industry stakeholders.

Following Ayra Starr, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems secured the number two spot on the list. American-Cameroonian singer Libianca was ranked third, while Malian-French artist Aya Nakamura took fourth. Completing the top five is British-Nigerian singer Darkoo, who has steadily made her mark in the global music scene.

Interestingly, South African singer Tyla was absent from the list despite her sweeping wins at major Afrobeats awards over the past year

. This omission sparked discussions among fans who argue that Tyla’s influence in the genre remains significant, especially considering her global streams and award achievements.

Spotify also released the list of Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, which was dominated entirely by Nigerian musicians. Rema led the list, with Ayra Starr taking the second spot, followed by CKay in third. Global superstars Burna Boy and Wizkid occupied the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

This highlights Nigeria’s dominance in the Afrobeats genre across continents, particularly in Latin America, where Nigerian music continues to gain substantial traction.

The recognition further cements Ayra Starr’s status as a leading voice in Afrobeats. Her influence extends beyond music, inspiring young fans with her fashion, public statements, and dedication to her craft.

In addition to topping Spotify’s charts, she has also been involved in multiple collaborations with both Nigerian and international artists, further expanding her global reach.

Ayra Starr’s rise reflects a broader trend in which female artists are increasingly claiming prominence in Afrobeats, a genre historically dominated by male performers.

Industry experts say this shift not only diversifies the musical landscape but also introduces fresh perspectives and creativity into the genre.

With her top placement on Spotify’s list, Ayra Starr continues to solidify her reputation as one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures.

Fans and critics alike eagerly anticipate her next projects, as she continues to push boundaries and represent Nigerian music on the global stage.

Spotify’s acknowledgment serves as both a celebration of Ayra Starr’s achievements and a reminder of the growing impact of Nigerian artists in shaping the global Afrobeats movement.
