Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, better known by his stage name Rudeboy of the defunct P-Square duo, has voiced his displeasure over what he perceives as the unhealthy mindset dominating the present generation.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, the award-winning artiste strongly criticized the culture of endless comparisons, classism, and societal pressure that has become prevalent, especially on social media.
In his words:
“Aswear dis generation na madt people full am!! Haba!! Everything na comparison, class, level, maturity, bla bla blaAnd na mumu go still listen to this poor mentality psychos, then come go put themselves under pressure. Like wtf!!!”.
Rudeboy’s emotional outburst reflects his growing frustration with the obsession for validation and status-seeking that many youths have normalized. He argued that such a mindset not only spreads toxic energy but also traps people in a cycle of pressure and discontent.
His remarks quickly sparked widespread reactions online. Many fans and social media users agreed with his stance, pointing out that the rise of social media has worsened the unhealthy culture of comparison. According to some, the need to keep up appearances, flaunt wealth, or showcase achievements has led to rising cases of mental stress, depression, and feelings of inadequacy.
Others, however, believe that Rudeboy’s comments are a reflection of a broader societal problem — where material success is often used as the yardstick for worth and respect.
The singer, who has built a reputation for being outspoken on societal issues, is not new to calling out what he sees as hypocrisy or misplaced priorities. His recent rant further reinforces his image as an artiste unafraid to speak his mind, even when it stirs debate.
As conversations around his post continue to trend, it adds to the growing discourse on how today’s youth can balance ambition with mental well-being in a society driven by external validation.
