Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, has revealed that the team has yet to receive the $100,000 cash prize promised by President Bola Tinubu.
The reward was announced during a ceremony to honour the Falcons for their victory at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco. In addition to the cash, the President also pledged national honours and housing for the players and coaching staff.
Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade expressed disappointment over the delay in fulfilling these promises.
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid,” she said.
“They have not paid, all the promises, we have not received anything.”
Notably, just a week after pledging the rewards to the Falcons, President Tinubu announced similar gifts for Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress.
